Long Beach Port Offering Drivers New Texting Service Alerts

Frustrations have been mounting for fleets and drivers and now the port of Long Beach has an attempt to alleviate those frustrations a little, with a new system, called Truck Alert. Truck Alert is free and offered for truckers at the port of Long Beach to be able to receive information, alerts, and updates about traffic conditions, according to Long Beach Post News. To subscribe, drivers need to text “TruckAlert” to 79516, after that they will receive notifications on road closures, crashes, detours, and other port conditions. Lee Peterson, a port spokesperson says they have no plans to spam users with pointless alerts.

Mario Cordero, executive director of the Port of Long Beach said in a press release that, “Truck Alert is designed to reduce road congestion but providing truck drivers an opportunity to improve scheduling and enhance turn times during the unprecedented cargo surge we’re experiencing,” reported by Supply Chain Drive. The ultimate goal for this new system is to provide truckers with quick and relevant updates.

Part of the frustration from fleets is they have often been unable to move containers, due to congestion or appointment availability, yet they are still charged. This also has an impact on drayage drivers as well. Most drayage drivers like the ability to be home every night but are not always able to do so because of these supply chain issues. It also impacts drivers financially, as drivers are not paid by hour or salary, they are paid by move or mile. It’s already been hard enough to find and retain drivers this past year and a half or so, and having all this congestion does not make matters any easier.

With the holiday season approaching, this new Truck Alert system has started at the right time and hopefully can eliminate some congestion or at the very least some frustration. Contact us today if you would like to learn more or if you have any questions!
